Facilities Manager

Summary

Manage all parish physical resources, custodial care, security, maintenance of SSJ Campus, special and capital projects.

The Facilities manager must have the ability to understand and apply the vision and mission of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church (SSJ) while managing the details and providing the structure that supports them.

Responsibilities

This position requires a team player attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, attention to details and the ability to coordinate multiple projects. Must be able to collaborate and support the Pastor, parish staff and parishioners.

 

  • Supervises grounds, buildings, custodial staff and facility volunteers.

  • Develops and manages direct report’ plan of work and assigns tasks appropriately.

  • Works with the Pastor, Business Operations Manager and Facility Committee in the planning and execution of building construction and improvement projects.

  • Negotiates cost and scheduling needs with contractors when maintenance and repair services are needed.

  • Sets expectations with all contractors/vendors ensuring efficient facility operations as well as keeping buildings and grounds attractive and well maintained.

  • Performs minor repairs, including but not limited to masonry, minor electric, plumbing, HV/AC and temporary repairs in an emergency.

  • Supervises tasks related to HV/AC, electrical, plumbing, security, fire system, environmental, safety, custodial and event coordination.

  • Maintains equipment on parish grounds by closely monitoring equipment and completing necessary testing as required, in addition to maintaining accurate records of all maintenance repairs.

  • Coordinates and works with the Hospitality Admin. about usage and proper scheduling of rooms and facilities to support meetings, events, devotions, weddings, funerals, physical resources (i.e. equipment) and manages building access.

  • Attends meetings addressing building policies, needed repairs, major projects and events.

  • Responsible for building safety by complying with all building code requirements.

  • Works with Development Director reporting issues, offering solutions and cost estimates related to such repairs and/or services.

  • Provides Development Director a weekly update on the status of ongoing or pending projects.

  • Develops, oversees and assists teams of volunteers who provides parish maintenance services such as cleaning, painting and landscaping.

  • Creates and implements procedures for handling, storing, safekeeping and proper disposal of hazardous materials. Also maintains parish MSDS record.

  • Maintains list of the parish wide asset inventory and reviews it annually.

  • Assists parish with IT needs; keeps contact with contracted providers to resolve issues in a timely manner.

  • Manages relationship with Church partners, groups and organizations to address any maintenance concerns.

  • Ensures compliance, adherence and implementation of Diocesan policies within the parish facilities.

  • Serves as primary contact for facilities related emergencies, which may require evening or weekend attendance.

  • ·Works with Development Director to manage annual facility budget.

  • Other duties assigned by the Pastor and/or Business Operations Manager.

 

Education and experience.

 

  • High School diploma is the minimum requirement, with some college education preferred and 3-5 years field experience. Spanish speaking a plus.

  • Demonstrates excellent leadership and conflict resolution skills.

  • Must have good planning and organizational skills and be able to prioritize competing demands.

  • Ability to negotiate with contractors and vendors for facility needs.

  • Must have clear understanding of acceptable business practice according to church teachings.

  • Be able to conceptualize his/her administrative and managerial work and demonstrate/verbalize the function of the job.

  • General knowledge of basic building maintenance, HVAC and mechanical functions, general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and custodial skills.

  • Work hours determined by the needs and usage of the facilities.

  • Available for emergencies.

  • Ability to communicate with staff and volunteers about facilities needs and usage.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds and have complete mobility in moving around the buildings and grounds.

  • Must demonstrate strong working knowledge with computers and proficiency in software programs like Microsoft Office applications, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, database systems and use of the Internet.

  • Must be able to teach others and possess efficient caring and discerning skills.

  • Essential to have a cheerful, pleasant and caring Christ-like spirit and the ability to efficiently work with a wide spectrum of people.

 

Compensation

This is a full-time position with salary commensurate with experience and education.
